The Carolina Hurricanes First Goal Program Assisted by Carvana is a partnership between the Carolina Hurricanes, the National Hockey League, and the National Hockey League Players' Association in conjunction with the league-wide Learn To Play program. The initiative provides first-time participants (boys and girls) aged 5-9* (birth years 2012-2016) with hockey equipment as well as the opportunity to enjoy instructional hockey sessions.

*We will allow any first-time child who is 10 years (birth year 2011) of age this year only as the program was canceled last summer and we want to be sure they get the opportunity as well.

Participants are introduced to the game of hockey by Hurricanes alumni and receive brand-new CCM equipment, Hurricanes branded Jersey, that you KEEP, all fitted by Pure Hockey, including:

  • helmet
  • shoulder, elbow, and shin pads
  • gloves
  • pants
  • socks
  • skates
  • jersey
  • equipment bag
  • stick

The weekly Learn-to-Play sessions take place in July and August over a six-week span. Also, each participant receives two tickets to a Hurricanes home game (date TBD), a Hurricanes Hockey Kids Club membership, and a graduation certificate. Once the program is complete, families are given next-step opportunities for their new hockey players to continue learning the game at the facility of your choice!

Rinks we will be visiting in year four of this program: Polar Ice House locations in Cary, Garner and Wake Forest, Polar Ice Plex, Orange County Sportsplex in Hillsborough, Cleland Ice Rink at Ft. Bragg, Greensboro Ice House, Bojangles Arena - Charlotte, and the Brand New Wake Competition Center facility in Morrisville.
